Goldie, a stunning 19-year-old pony, didn’t have the best start in life and has many a scar which tells the story. Despite this, thanks to the incredible love and patience of her owner, Vicki, Goldie had blossomed into a trusting, affectionate pony. But one thing remained: a deep concern of having her ears touched. Putting on a head collar required careful negotiation (and plenty of carrots!), and when ridden, Goldie would toss her head. Vicki simply wanted her pony to feel comfortable, relaxed, and free from stress.

Over several sessions, I worked gently with Goldie, using a combination of TTouch techniques, body wraps, and adjustments to her equipment to help her feel safer in her own body. Bit by bit, her trust grew. Her ears, once an untouchable zone, became a source of great relaxation rather than fear. Soon, you’d never have guessed there was ever an issue.
Then, in 2021, Goldie faced a new challenge. She became unwell with a liver condition, with her liver function soaring to a worrying 300+ (when normal is between 60-80). Things weren’t looking good, and every tool we had was needed to support her recovery. The vet recommended supplements, and we paired this with regular TTouch ear work—which, luckily, Goldie now adored. With this combined approach, her liver healed completely, and today, her liver remains in full health.
Goldie’s journey is a testament to the power of trust, patience, and the right approach. Her past may have shaped her, but it no longer defines her.
“My horse Goldie has been head shy since I got her over 10 years ago. She’s never been keen on her head and ears being touched and on one occasion I couldn’t get a head collar on her because of it. Angela has been doing TTouch with Goldie for a while now and Goldie has put all her trust in Angela and will allow her poll, ears and face to be touched. Even riding her, pulling on the reins has reduced massively. A long-term struggle is now a lot more comfortable for both of us. Thanks Angela you are a superstar”
